As a former Texan, I want to stress this for any of my European friends that this is *in no way* hyperbole: “literally actually dead” means dead. Not “they might be sick if you don’t make sure to go quickly” but “you will rush back to your car and then you will have to plan a funeral”. It is *shocking* how fast a child can die in a parked car even with the windows down, and every few years an immigrant to Texas from cooler climates learns this the hard way.
