There were other signs of trouble, and in any case it SHOULD be a policy of U.S. #journalism never to believe anything a business-person says in public because they're always selling something, and selling means lying. It's utterly infuriating and unsettling to me—though I know the reasons for it, roughly—that @arstechnica etc. are blinkered or corrupt enough to take people like Elon Musk and Sam Altman at their words.
These people aren't the future. They never were. It should have been incredibly obvious that they were scum, mere betrayers and exploiters of #science and #technology.
