Truth in Posting: I was a sysadmin for a company in LA during "The Great Renaming". we relayed a fairly large chunk off the backbone over phone lines each day... think blinking modems running data not-so-fast across exchange boundaries only when line charges were cheap.
the reorg that was "The Great Renaming" had wonderful real-world effects, and sold me on the idea there area appropriate uses of hierarchy in networking.
