i have put tens of thousands of hours into FLOSS over the years, at least. i have released hundreds of projects under FLOSS licenses, all hand written by me (and sometimes other contributors). I've done the time, I've worn my values on my sleeve and I've learned a thing or two about software development in the process.
I'm even prepared to go out on a limb here and say I care about FLOSS software more than every single one of these shitheads who are telling us we should just embrace the new era of buggy unmaintainable shit.
If they were really on the side of FLOSS, they'd be looking at what happens if the bubble pops. I mean it is going to pop, but they will never accept that, so let's leave it open. What do you do when your FLOSS software has hemorrhaged quality and become unmaintainable junk? And what of the unsettled legal status of generated code and the copyright concerns?
The FLOSS movement has weathered storms before and it will weather this one. But I think it's clear that we've got a lot of work to do building slop free replacements for the shit that's being contaminated in the meantime by the metaphorical asbestos.
