funny thing about yesterday's benchmarking spree is that i've realised branch prediction is becoming both less important and more important.
less important because CPU speeds are relatively speaking climbing right now. rumours are we're getting a nearly 7ghz Zen 6!
more important because even though the failure case is slow, when it works, BP allows it to fold so much extra work into your critical sections that the ceiling of performance becomes relatively speaking much higher!
