It takes management capacity and the ability to direct things in a loose top-down sense (think corporate-level OKRs + delegation) to engineer freedom *from* choice, not just freedom *of* choice.

This is a lesson Linux & friends have never learned, and it's why we are stuck in a Groundhog Day "Year of the Linux Desktop" 25+ years later. Delivering for those who *aren't* (low-level) developers requires abstraction and disciplines that rarely self-organise because they lack free capital.
