I feel like at least part of the "my AI did crime" / "well, my AI did more crimes" / "actually, *my* AI will commit the most heinous crimes" news cycle is their way of kickstarting that, just for AI and crime
The fact that it was one AI company targeting another AI company kind of ensured that whatever the reaction was, it would be pro-AI
