What has been the result of the attrition against unions in the last half century?

Well, one clear answer seems to be that wages have declined as a share of GDP, which is the background to the ongoing cost-of-living crisis across many countries' workforce(s).

Some might argue the decline of unionisation is a correlation, not a cause, but if so they need to identify other major structural shifts to explain the reduction.

anyway people apparently hate the idea of having a proper programming language in there. i know this because everyone has come along and mentioned their favourite deliberately limited config language. one has even attempted to argue "look we can make abstractions" and i'm just not prepared to expend any more mental energy in that direction.

it is my contention that what is missing from most packaging systems is a proper programming language. a proper programming language does not include deliberately limited languages like starlark or kdl, that is absolutely not what i want.

conary is the best we had so far, and that used python. and i know that being able to write things in a proper language was by far the best thing ever, even if it was python.

i actually would like to crank it all the way up to 11 on the power scale and just use a lisp. but what i absolutely do not want to do is use some shit language deliberately intended to limit you from building proper abstractions to tidy things up and eliminate boilerplate.

My favourite memory about Homestuck is that I managed to get my brother to start reading it, he was progressing slowly, had a few big breaks. And one time when I againasked how he's doing, he said he is back at it again but all the trolls with their own thing was a bit much, there is just so many characters to keep track of.

At that point I decided to have mercy on him, and with barely contained laughter I managed to communicate that there are 4 more main kids and 12 more marginally relevant trolls down the line

In that moment, he was enlightened

Two mastodon posts. The first from @quaff@thecanadian.social has a link to https://www.parl.ca/DocumentViewer/en/45-1/bill/C-34/first-reading and a screenshot of the Minimum Age Obligation section of the bill, which reads "27 (1) Subject to section 29, an operator must, with respect to every regulated social media service specified by regulations made by the Governor in Council under subsection (5) that it operates, implement adequate age-verification or age-estimation measures designed to prevent a person under the age of 16 from being able to have an account with, or be otherwise registered with, the service."
