Examples of left kissing (A) and right hugging (B). The two schemas show a top view of the opposite behavioral asymmetries.

But okay, I'll escalate and tell you more explicitly to involve your brain or get lost.

Similarly, do not leave your phone sitting in the sun in your parked car for even a moment in weather like this. Devices like iPhones are well-protected against lithium electrolyte thermal runaway, but that protection does rely on the environment being a place where the phone’s heat can go AWAY to, not a place where extra heat is coming from. A hot car in the sun with no ventilation is not a place where extra heat can go.

As a former Texan, I want to stress this for any of my European friends that this is *in no way* hyperbole: “literally actually dead” means dead. Not “they might be sick if you don’t make sure to go quickly” but “you will rush back to your car and then you will have to plan a funeral”. It is *shocking* how fast a child can die in a parked car even with the windows down, and every few years an immigrant to Texas from cooler climates learns this the hard way.

One more “Peoples of the North, hear my plea” for the Netherlands and friends today:

If you leave your child or dog in the car today while you run into the grocery store, they will seriously actually literally be dead by the time you get back.

When I lived in Virginia, they put signs up in grocery store parking lots with dog icons to remind you of this. It only takes a few minutes of a windows-closed car parked in direct heatwave sunlight to kill a toddler or a dog.

Since such heat rarely happens here, I expect a lot of people don’t realize just how serious this is.

#Art

A photograph of a tall, green-patinated bronze sculpture inside a spacious building with white walls. The artwork features a muscular man walking forward at the base. Balanced on his shoulders is another crouched man, who covers the eyes of the man below him. This pattern repeats vertically, with an entire chain of crouched figures stacking on top of one another, each covering the eyes of the person beneath them, curving upward and tapering off into a long, spine-like tail near the ceiling.
