Dear YouTubers, when you set up your camera, make sure it's focused on you and not on the microphone directly in front of you, which means you will be ever slightly out of focus the entire time you are speaking. That's really annoying and distracting.

And if that's the political future we're heading toward, we (the US) are in trouble. Because conservatives, in the end, have a political party. Whereas leftists do not, or at least the Democrats try *very* hard to keep the left from having one. This means in an election, "everything's fine" and "everything sucks; legalize racial discrimination" are options on the ballot, but "everything sucks; spend money to fix it" isn't. Meaning eventually, "everything sucks" voters gravitate Republican. (3/3)

Kurtz's alarming underlying worldview makes this post, if anything, the more interesting. It maybe portends a future where centrists/neoliberals/"Democrats" cling ever-harder to an insistence everything is fine, while conservatives and leftists point to the same ballooning problems while proposing opposite solutions. What's interesting to me about this piece is large sections of it sound like a leftist analysis of current economics, but Kurtz is writing from a *very* right wing perspective; so he highlights the same problems a lefty might care about, but generally reaches opposite conclusions about etiology and fixes.

For example, he cites dysfunctional public schools as a loss of "social capital". A leftist might agree, and conclude the reason schools got worse is systematic conservative defunding… (1/3)

Oh I'm kinda guilty of this too. Unintentional gender euphoria?

On a more serious note, if you do the "60 messages in the morning thing", what the hell do you talk about?

(Serious question, I've had a friend advise me to take more initiative in social interactions, and I have zero clue how to go about doing that)

The grant agency and the applicants themselves can also run the LLMs; wouldn't need us reviewers to do so. What's more, it's possible that the applicants have fine-tuned their proposal in response to feedback from an LLM. So we reviewers would add nothing (or worse, as explained) by running LLMs on the proposal.

As long as we're bashing RFK Jr here, I should I've been really enjoying the new podcast "Good Science", where my old boss Anthony Atamaniuk does a pitch-perfect impression of the guy as he attempts a podcast with an idiot from the Austin comedy manosphere (expertly played by Gil Ozeri).

If you've ever seen Anthony's Trump, (he's been calling in to the new Infowars!) you know how dark and no-holds-barred that impression goes, and the same is true here. It's cathartic and hilarious.

Another thing I can perhaps do is learn LMMS or similar which tends to be better at musical sequences (Strudel is very loop-based)
