there have been two attempts at a model everything in postgres for flexibility version of fedi. jsonb and my own universal primary key with trait tables.

jsonb turns out to be a mistake for real. perf goes to shit fairly quickly, this is why pleroma and akkoma users are always complaining about perf.

UPK w/traits is a mixed bag. it will get you that flexibility and it will work better than jsonb, but you're still ultimately making the database's job quite difficult. and of course you can't make the database do all the recursive deletion for you so have fun with that.

you know how pext takes up to 290 cycles on zen 2 and it really pisses me off? well fdiv on some i7 can take over 600 cycles when it's in subnormal form!

Also, I'm an idiot. I *did* know about polarizer filters before I went to shoot orcas and seascapes. Might have been the perfect opportunity to use one to get rid of the ever present blue haze when shooting on a sunny day with a tele lens. But as it happens, I only remembered that I wanted to acquire it after I got home and started processing photos… So yeah, don't be like me. Don't think that you can do *everything* in post. Optics is important, too :-)
