LinkedIn “likes” are like partial reshares, because they might show up in follower streams, and they do show up in your “activity” stream. So if anyone wants to find one of your posts, say, they will see what you liked, in your activity stream.

Which makes people more “self-conscious” about their “likes” because it is part of “managing” their presentation… And isn’t only a gesture of appreciation and support.

👉 An example where UX design, is design of the social space around the system…

@davidgerard I have advised a bunch of NGOs to basically do that: The only grants for infrastructure they get are about "AI" so think about processes you actually need to change and label standard infra as "sovereign AI". Works as a pragmatic strategy especially for cash poor NGOs

@Gulleko One thing about a lot of cat behaviour that reads as annoying is that it often seem to come from desire to participate. They see you getting really preoccupied with something and they want in, even if--especially if--it's a task that requires zero cats.

I want America to be a country that everyone wants to work with. A country with advanced technology and the people who make it. A country with amazing public infrastructure that makes visitors stop and take photos. A country with a reputation for taking on ambitious projects and succeeding at getting them done. A country who leads in opinions on international conflicts because of an excellent track record of being right.

That's not going so well and hardly ever was.

@Owlor Yeah, a lot of it is just wanting to be included. Or that you're giving too much attention to something else instead of giving them attention. 😅

Which is why there will always be a cat on the fabric if I handsew in bed or cut out a pattern on the floor. I've learned to work around the cat. 😹

note that upk is (apart from the tedious deletion thing, which is very tedious, but weren't you going to have tombstones anyway?) very nice to use if you don't have a large amount of data in the database - use it for all those all those smaller projects where perf is less of a problem.

there have been two attempts at a model everything in postgres for flexibility version of fedi. jsonb and my own universal primary key with trait tables.

jsonb turns out to be a mistake for real. perf goes to shit fairly quickly, this is why pleroma and akkoma users are always complaining about perf.

UPK w/traits is a mixed bag. it will get you that flexibility and it will work better than jsonb, but you're still ultimately making the database's job quite difficult. and of course you can't make the database do all the recursive deletion for you so have fun with that.
