this has happened at least 3 times now. a person i had contact with suddenly says something in favor of AI usage. at first it looks slightly innocuous, the sort of take you go "ugh" but you wouldn't cut contact with someone over (at least i wouldn't a few months ago).
it's usually disguised as a defense or argument for something else too. "FOSS developers are burnt out" "anti-AI folks are being unreasonable" "i don't think we should demonize people for something like this".
at the time, i saw some of these takes but didn't do anything. because i didn't want to be "radical", "unreasonable".
but then it starts. a few days later, or sometimes even in the same thread, that same person is going full on AI defense. mocking anti-AI folks. and one thing becomes clear: what they are doing is trying to justify their own use or support of AI.
that's why i don't want to be around anyone anymore that doesn't have an explicit stance of "fuck AI, it should burn to the ground and there is no excuse for using it of one's own volition whatsoever".

The basic gist is: AI made me a worse, apathetic programmer. I think it's bad for humanity, the planet, and the craft of software engineering. And I'm done using it.

I'm also not all that motivated to make everything "family friendly" if I can't be my adult queer self. Everyone wants queer people to be role models for their kids, nobody wants to deal with the messy reality of adulthood. Sorry, I didn't live through Ronald f'ing Reagan so I could live like a Disney character and increase shareholder value.

💭 What might peer review look like if it evolved alongside the research process, rather than centering only on the final paper?
That’s what the Modular Peer Review Working Group set out to explore between January and July 2026. Convened by the Continuous Science Foundation & PREreview, more than 60 researchers, infrastructure builders, publishers, and community members generated practical, testable ideas for integrating peer review across the research lifecycle. Their conviction: researchers benefit most from feedback when it arrives early enough to influence the work.
The groundwork is laid—and the invitation to shape what comes next is open.
🙌 What the group asked, learned and produced in each session, reported here: https://articles.continuousfoundation.org/articles/modular-peer-review/report

My goodness, this is sublime writing.
"Just fix your fucking code. Pour some concrete. And stop trying to upgrade my body when the problem is your design."
Yes. Every word of this.
Disabled people's bodies are not your problem to fix. But the infrastructure and systems which exclude our bodies are everyone's problem. Spend a few hours and a few bucks addressing them *for everyone*, instead of wasting millions trying to turn one "lucky" individual into Iron Man.
