I saw a pretty major contributor to Rust projects making the case for LLMs being used in programming, and one of the things they liked is that you can ask it all the technical questions you want without feeling embarrassed, and what an indictment of the work culture of software engineering that is.

Reading up on the whole thing with AI in education and reading teachers and other educators wax poetically about what education is actually about really makes me realize they don't understands what happens after their grades are handed out. From a teacher's prespective a grade is simply feedback.

But, as a student it decided if I was reward or punished. It wasn't a tool to help me improve, it was a number I needed to maintain so I could see my friends and avoid getting grounded or a belt across my ass. It was a number that decided if I could graduate and earn a livable income or struggle with low paying jobs.

Mijn standpunt rondom generative AI blijft "it's complicated" maar als je een indieweb manifesto maakt met Claude en dan vooral de tekst laat editten door AI.... tja... dat vind ik echt niet passen.

“Why are you so angry, Adam? Why are you so loud?”

*This* is why. If I’m not angry about all of this, then I’ve resigned myself to the problem. If I’m not loud, then I’m not using my voice (which I’m incredibly privileged to have).

I’m not saying everyone else should be loud and angry. But it’s always a good thing when other privileged people consider how they can apply their privilege toward addressing our problems, rather than using it to perpetuate them.

Plus any number of similar projects and more mainstream options like NetBSD that could be suitable alternatives to the Linux kernel in some circumstances. 🤔

@neatnik Quite possibly! I know some folks get unreasonably paranoid about em dashes. I just noticed there was some nice parallel construction in the original version that went away in the published text, which had a vibe of an LLM “helpfully” sanding down prose to be a bit more, well, median.

Stay tuned for my upcoming piece, ”The IndieWeb is Full of Poseurs”. There will *not* be T-shirts or stickers.

But in all seriousness: I actually don't care if anyone uses AI tools. I don't use them, but you do you. What I do care about is honesty and transparency, and I also think that the methods should align with the message. It is batshit crazy to use tools antithetical to the IndieWeb to create a message purporting IndieWeb values. These LLM-pilled guys have lost the plot.
