This is a lesson Linux & friends have never learned, and it's why we are stuck in a Groundhog Day "Year of the Linux Desktop" 25+ years later. Delivering for those who *aren't* (low-level) developers requires abstraction and disciplines that rarely self-organise because they lack free capital.

Back in college I was pretty heavily involved in the local LUG (organised events, President for a while, etc.), and it didn't take more than a few year's experience to teach me that the politics of the Free Software viewpoint might have been morally right, but were practically useless in the liberatory sense. Unless FOSS stocked away enough capital to liberate *itself*, it could never do enough to build the sort of high-level managerial systems that would allow it to compete under capitalism.
