the takeaway people should have is that all the megacorps have always reserved the right to plagiarize any research you use them for. it's always been super fucking shitty and none of us should ever have accepted it.

only two things have changed.

  1. LLMs make it feasible for megacorps to actually find the stuff worth stealing
  2. companies whose focus is LLMs are desperate for good PR, which makes stealing attractive

again, we're not a lawyer. we have not sought legal advice on the OpenAI ToU. we have worked alongside lawyers on enforcement of contractual provisions almost exactly like this, and on that basis we're in a position to attest that it really says that.

Jokes went around that the people at the IT conference used it to get their workplace to pay for going to EF.

we just went and checked a detail in OpenAI's terms of use, because we want to be able to say for sure that it's what we think. as context on this, we're not a lawyer but we're a privacy expert and are highly familiar with the enforcement of clauses in the form we're about to show. every major online service has one like this, and it's always been a very serious problem.

Would you like to be able to install just the bits of Twisted that you like? Maybe you want to use Deferred for better async testability but you don't feel the need for a whole DNS server just for that? Well, good news, I have an excellent volunteer opportunity for you:

It's a drawing from the Simpsons, showing Lyle Lanley, the Music Man Harold Hill-esque huckster who convinces Springfield that monorails are a good investment. He's wearing a red jacket, a red bowtie, a hat; his bangs have three curls, and he has a large smile that says "trust me". His monorail was terrible.
