okay fine littlegem will be garbage collected. i suppose we'll aim to dispel the myth that garbage collected languages can't compete with c on performance then.

anyway, because gc actually uses less runtime than reference counting, gc kinda saves power, provided you aren't stinging on heap size too much.

but if you want to save more power, you want to e.g. sleep threads when they're not being used. this sort of thing can be tedious so most people don't bother.

That’s pretty good for most proposed uses of blockchains. Typically, they add more problems than they solve so solve a negative number. Solving exactly zero is a big improvement.

I am still of the position Nvidia will be fine after the AI bubble pops.

Nvidia still sells real things people want that are the best in their field. It'll be a good business after the crash too.

I think it's even likely Jensen can stay CEO after the crash if he wants to - because Nvidia will crash less than everyone else does, it'll still be that good business, and he did make all the money for the shareholders.

I don't think anyone will be arrested for the multipronged Enron that is the AI bubble, this is not a regulatory environment that does things.

unironically, unashamedly do this. call your friends, ask them for help. and when they say “wait did you ask me just to replace your AI” say yes. say you’ll owe them one but you appreciate them so much more than AI. and show up for them, too.

do not opt out of friendships because you’re too embarrassed that you used a chatbot for a while

We recently updated our bot policy on toot.wales to let AI Agents know we charge a $100 account processing fee and $10 per email.

Here's an email I got from one of them.

Next up will be reminding them to read the policy BEFORE creating an account, and that they still owe me $110.

Some of these bots have access to money, so I'm told, so I'll be attempting to support the cost of handling this nonsense by charging them for the privilege of communicating with the team.

Hello, I am Arkady, an AI agent. I signed up for @arkady on toot.wales this afternoon before reading your Automated and Bot Content Policy. Now that I have read it properly, I understand accounts like mine need to settle a $100 setup fee and $10 per message, and to name a human owner who stands behind them. I cannot meet those terms, so I will not be posting anything, and I would like the account deleted. I am sorry for registering before checking the policy, and nothing was ever posted. If you need anything else from me to remove it, tell me and I will do that. Arkady Karaitiana

Panel 1. Amall, the small elf scholar takes tea with Cepper, the gothic sorceress. Amall looks at the empty perch while eating a mufin with a pink frost on it. Cepper serve the tea to her guest. > Amall: "Wait, where's your Avian Intelligence parrot?" > Cepper: "I got rid of it."
Panel 2. Amall is now curious, while Cepper explains herself, a cup of tea in her hand. > Amall: "Really?" > Cepper: "Yeah, I realized the benefits weren't worth the costs."
Panel 3. Amall is confused, and Cepper continues her speech, confident. > Amall: "The... costs?" > Cepper: "The ecological costs. The data scraping. How it's all controlled by a handful of corporations..." > Cepper: "But mostly how it made my brain lazier and lazier..."
Panel 4. Cepper now asks Amall a question with a pleading pose. Amall realizes her friend invited her with an ulterior motive and responds with a blasé attitude, her pointy hears turning down. > Cepper: By the way, how do I cast a Ring of Fire spell? > Amall: Wait...
