The problem here is the risk profile of cycling in a city for every day travel is nowhere near the risk profile of the activities cycling is typically being compared with.

And hence once you apply the same logic consistently, you end up with stupid conclusions like mandatory helmets for walking in the winter, running, or even showering because statistically these cause more head injuries than cycling.

Mandatory cycle helmet laws are good at one thing. Making people cycle less.

Here's the latest AI slop creator ripping off my content.

This time they ran my script through an AI "podcast" generator (likely the free one by Adobe) and put it under the footage from my latest video.

When I make my videos, I spend hours travelling and filming on-location to get real footage that can't be found anywhere else.

Then these AI slop creators steal it and release it as their own.

About 90% of my exposure to "AI" these days is just slop farms ripping me off.

Folks let's get some more boosts on this and connect to a Grafana expert, we can't have this AI harm mitigation strategy absolutely face-plant on the _first try_.

(I am Very Bad At Grafana™ so this one's beyond my ability to just jump into the breach on, which is probably a good thing)

🧵 1/ I see there are many people in the replies to this post getting upset and claiming this is an unspoken social requirement in interviews and that it's unfair to the neurodiverse.

I did hundreds of interviews during my time in tech and I can state with 100% confidence that this is absolutely not a trap for neurodiverse people. It's easy to recognize nd candidates and account for social awkwardness or nervousness or whatever. It's tech! A lot of us are like that! ☺️

Got invited by @tammy to a cool discussion this morning with @anniesullie and @paulcalvano. I ended up digressing into some of the cultural forces that have been arrayed against good web experiences over the past decade+.

The culpability of JS influencers remains extremely high, as marketing eroded support for evidence-based engineering.

As I ripped off a quip about writing (source unknown): if you want to be a thought leader get a blog; if you want to engineer, engineer things.

Here is to the next twenty-five.
