We heard you! We are not accepting any AI or agentic code contributions, and will keep building Pixelfed by hand.

Thank you for your feedback!

A people with no history are not "a people" they are labor, customers, automata subject to the whims of the markets and the people who drive those markets.

It's obvious that burning the library, burning the books is wrong. We understand that words written by people we can never meet, people who are far away or long gone can make each of us more powerful.

But what if the fire that consumes your library is instead a torrent of nonsense? Fire is only one kind of entropy.

saw someone on HN say they will never contribute to Nura again since we ban LLM generated contributions (they had receipts too, they had contributed in the past)

their argument was that having done device porting manually before, doing it with an LLM was something like 10x faster

having seen the various LLM driven ports going around, we can't deny that LLMs are capable of doing kernel bringup, finding a functional implementation, and making many more attempts to trial and error than we humans are.

of course, this doesn't come without a cost, as with most technical advancements this cost is mostly offloaded onto those without the resources to prevent it -- the under educated working class and the global south, those who will be most affected by droughts and worsening climate change

this is reason enough to disengage from this technology, at least the implementations of it that cause most of this harm, but there is another more devious issue that i haven't seen mentioned a whole lot

in the same way that huge retail chains and global shipping extract wealth from small towns, LLMs extract knowledge from communities

the Nura wiki and other infrastructure was unusable for days at a time due to web scraping, and now imposes a proof of work on visitors (which also prevents access from old devices)

now that this data is in accessible models, people who aren't active in our community can use an LLM to port a device, to generate their own private documentation, they can enable devices in the mainline kernel or contribute to other upstreams if their LLM patches are accepted. People that may normally have become active members of the Nura community instead engage with a chatbot operated by big tech, which of course uses their chat history for training new models

As maintainers, for us to allow LLMs into our community would in my opinion be the beginning of the end, as our community knowledge base would be gutted, developers would become burnt out and disillusioned, and our culture would be erased.

For no particular reason, say you found a vulnerability in a piece of software. How would I maximize the likelihood of a bounty payout? I have never submitted one before.

we're pretty lucky in that we grew up in total social isolation, so we already had the adaptation. it's an easy one to describe -

we're doing it for ourselves.

if your project adopts LLMs, you have functionally said that your development community doesn't have value to you, only the end asset. why, on earth, should anyone even bother contributing or participating in this situation?

the community is the thing that matters, it is what keeps something moving forward and adapting as times change. this is what you need to build, and LLM coding directly attacks it. the raw assets, the source code and binaries, are just bytes on a disk.

Okay I did not expect Oscar to fall in love with mc but a romance arc is a romance arc.

But I feel bad for Kaneeka... I was kinda hoping to romance her in this run

A screenshot of the main character talking to a man (Oscar, the same man as in the screenshot of the previous toot). The main character has walked into the woods with him. The dialog box says: Tip: Dialogue options marked (Romance) will start a romantic arc with the character you're talking to, and will lock you out of romance arcs with other characters. 1. (Romance) "Yeah, you can buy me flowers and invite me to dinner." 2. (Romance) "I'll be the one buying you flowers and inviting you to dinner." 3. (Romance) "Don't worry about all that. I just want to explore this while I still can." 4. "I'm sorry. I should go" 5. Turn around and leave.
