The thing that creeps me out about AI is that people anthropomorphize it while *also* excusing its behavior FAR MORE than they would a person.

If a person constantly lied to my face, then, after being called out, said "Oh, you're right, I totally made that up", I would disinvite them from my life.

If some person on the internet said "I'll write that code for you, just give me access to a shell on your computer", I'd say FUCK NO!

It's great to see the wave of new interest. We're a community that's had 30 years to develop its culture, and things here might work a little bit differently than you expect. But don't let that discourage you from getting involved. This mastodon-account-manager first became a developer in 2018, and it's easily one of the best things she ever did.

Here's a great video on setting things up:

Though, I used the "httpChallenge" method to set up #letsencrypt certs, which IMO is much easier to set up than the DNS method in the video.

I also used Podman instead of Docker, and found this blog post very helpful:

In migrating some services off of #DigitalOcean, I'm taking the opportunity to properly containerize them. I started setting up an #nginx web proxy to the containers, but kept running into silly roadblocks.

Friends recommended #traefik and it was a very big improvement:

  1. Can auto-configure proxies based on Docker/Podman container labels.
  2. Can auto-provision Let's Encrypt certs for them.
  3. Handy little web console to check on things.

Definitely will be using/recommending this more!

Michael Vassar in that list is also the former president of MIRI, the organization closely advising Sanders.

Guys, we can't except our "leftist" politicians preoccupied with the 1% and all that to care about eugenics or sexual assault or cults or anything like that right?
