Tomorrow I begin (with one undergraduate student) my new research project into accessible game development.

We hope to build a couple of simple games this summer using Godot. We might need to buy some art assets (3D models, icons, sounds, etc.), and I'd like to support disabled artists. If you are (or know of) such a person who has some assets available, please drop a link!

Having watched the Challenger doc and thinking about all this LLM policy crap again, this fact about disaster prevention occurs to me:

If you prevent a disaster, most times, nobody will know about it. All we will be able to see are the costs incurred by the caution taken to prevent a potential disaster.

This is especially bad when coupled with capitalism loving to cut "expenses". Because there was no disaster (because of the caution), it leads to a false sense of security.

Also, if you need the underlying raw data for your shared links, just slap .json on the end of the URL and there’s a working endpoint there for that. e.g. https://adam.later.place/.json 🤓

In addition to displaying your links marked as Shared, any link that you’ve tagged with shared will be shown here too. This is a neat way to put stuff out there without having it appear on our main public/shared Linkding landing page.

Soon, you’ll be able to fully customize the template for your personal page (just like you can do with some.pics) for complete control over how things look and feel.

I’ll wrap all of this up soon, along with full documentation. Stay tuned! :prami_happy:

Still have some more work to do on this, but our custom later.place pages are coming along nicely. Here’s mine: https://adam.later.place

If you've shared any public links on our later.place Linkding instance, then you have a page like this too! Just plop your omg.lol address as a subdomain of later.place and you should see it.

i'm sure at least someone is wondering why on earth i would consider using a language that is not memory safe.

the short answer is i was never using rust because it was memory safe, i was using rust because the alternative was c++. memory safety was just a fringe benefit.

my brain is kinda turning off now because it's late, but i'm impressed at how much i was able to do fairly advanced things in zig with no prior knowledge today.

still getting my head around patterns for designing zig software. the HOT has some fairly demanding needs that previously only c++ is really able to solve (and there with limitations i'd like to improve upon!), but i think zig can probably be made to do it all, if only i knew how.

Not to defend the state of software development, but the fact that a generative "AI" can eventually be made to spit out an application for somebody isn't proof that all software is built on bullshit busy work or something. It's proof that there are a lot of tutorials, howtos, and apps out there to train on. It's proof that things like stack overflow used to be a useful place for some people to get answers. It's proof human being were generally working together to help each other build things and answer questions. It's not proof of human failure. It's proof of human success.
