aaaaand it is up. I could not resist testing it on the Yaesu… it tunes up and shows no SWR at all xmitting dahs on 50.250 MHz at 80W and a voice test at 100W gets me the same measures on the rig’s meter and then on the Flrig display.

I am pleased so far. it is vaguely aimed at describing a great circle towards Belgium (a heading of ~50°), which is close to what I want for the local net too (~40° & 220°)

The gas town guy has like 12 $200 Claude subscriptions to run like 20 bots to automate churn in a 20 year old game with literally 5 players in it. 10 if you count all the level 1 players who just came to grief it. This is the true endpoint of all this: spending thousands to make nothing for nobody.

"engineer away the slop"

A blog post by Geoffrey Huntley on July 24, 2026 displaying a cartoon hero image of a bearded man wearing glasses and a long-sleeved button-down shirt while sitting at a weaving loom, with various flowers scattered underneath the loom and lotus flower patches on the shirt's sleeve and chest. The image looks suspiciously AI-generated despite the title of the post being "engineer away the slop", with tells such as a bizarre looking set of headphones that have no headband and are instead attached to his glasses, inconsistent warp threads on the loom, odd fabric folds, and other strange artifacts mixed into the leaves.
An analysis of the hero image that shows it is, indeed, AI-generated with a 97% likelihood that its fake.

@foolishowl @davidgerard so... one of the biggest tragedies of the modern infotech industry predates AI sloppery by a long minute but really helped set the stage and it's that different development disciplines are different skill sets. I am a web application developer by trade at this point and a systems dev previously and somewhat on the side and those are not the same thing. Client user applications (eg Excel or Thunderbird or the Steam client) is a different skill set again. There's plenty of overlap in the same way there's overlap between, say, civil engineering and mechanical engineering. Games development, in this metaphor, is technical theater. Flattening them all and especially trying to treat games and, say, shipping website code for Amazon as fungible has done immeasurable damage to programming as a whole, and here comes the slop to reduce everything to a thin grey paste even further

I just remembered I could ask the internet for help on this issue

I have a wonky sleep schedule, but the main issue I have to deal with daily is uncontrolably falling asleep while doing something. It doesn't always happen the same way (that is, I couldn't find a trigger or some preceding symptoms), but it mostly happens when I am doing something that requires attention but not that much interaction. I very rarely have that while driving (but I don't feel safe having a long drive by myself because of that), but I very often do have it during classes or lectures. Reading things also becomes a coin toss whether I'm able to or not. Having a lot of sleep on the previous night doesn't prevent it. Sometimes I can pay attention for over 30 minutes before sleeping, sometimes I'm knocked out within less than 10 minutes.

I've had this since childhood but it took until getting out of university that I realized it wasn't normal (oops).

Anyone has any idea on what might be and what can I do about it? I did do sleep apnea and narcolepsy tests but they weren't conclusive and no doctor I came across gave me an answer.

Call for performers - live coding musicians/visualists and their collaborators.
Live coding music will have a focus on uzulangs like Tidal and Strudel, but we might be able to fit in others !
Details unclear, including whether we will charge on the door / be able to pay artists, but it will be run by volunteers only on not-for-profit basis. We'll try to work this out asap!
