It feels like catastrophizing to say "you can't use Google Docs for anything" but it's just straightforwardly true. Can't use it for fiction because if you have a racy scene (or anything an LLM might misinterpret as a racy scene) it might get deleted. Can't be a political dissident. Can't use it for shopping lists any more because if you ever put "birth control" on a shopping list, surprise, you're a political dissident (if not now, in the future)

What the hell? You know, I remember a time when companies actively tried to make their products better. These days it's like they're determined to make thing shittier with each new release.
So... yet another thing we all need to guard against. Sigh.

I haven’t seen anyone characterizing the MacStories/X issue as a “tech choice”. It was a choice, for sure, but technology wasn’t a factor. Business was the factor.
Shrugging this off as a “tech choice” conceals the larger issue. People thought MacStories stood with them on the important issues. Now they know that’s not the case, and it’s sad. And X represents everything that’s wrong with the world right now. Returning was a betrayal. But tech had nothing to do with it.

On Friday, we announced the new edition of Threat Modeling: designing for security in an AI world, and I'm incredibly grateful for all the shares and kind words.
Over the weekend, it climbed to best-seller status on Amazon for "Software design tools." If you think of threat modeling as a security technique, then our choice to put it into that category might seem odd.
One of the biggest lessons of the last ten years is that bolting-on security is so much harder than building it in from the start. And so I wrote this edition to be deeply accessible to software developers, and collaborating with Jim Minatel at Wiley, we decided to categorize it into software books. That's a harder hill to climb: the #1 new release status is a tougher fight. But it's the right arena for the book, the discipline, and long-term impact.
Oh, and it's available for pre-order at Amazon https://amzn.to/4urxcBJ or wherever fine #books are sold.

🦀🥷 We've released a @binaryninja plugin, Rust Metadata Carver, that extracts panic metadata from Rust binaries: https://github.com/decoderloop/rust%5Fmetadata%5Fcarver
Panic metadata in Rust binaries reveals the libraries used, the version of Rust used, and code locations from the original Rust source, down to the line numbers! This is very useful for finding the key functionality in a binary.
The plugin extracts that metadata, labels the original source file locations, and groups them into Tags (labelled with the 😱 emoji).
