Making a web page that proclaims “we are the DIY kids” and “we don’t need major platforms” using Claude and GitHub in order to sell T-shirts and stickers is perhaps the most ostentatious IndieWeb grift yet.

Jim didn’t DIY this, and he used multiple major platforms without being bothered by the irony. Does no one practice what they preach any more?

One of my favorite student proofs was written by a student who was just learning to speak English. He'd get frustrated with long explanations and just switch to equations or diagrams and write "it is like this:"

Then demonstrate his point.

He could have run the final draft through and LLM and it would add some pointless sentences to pad out the proof so it was less terse and more like every other proof ever written.

It would have been worse.

With spelling there isn't any creativity that I will never unlock, but with sentence and paragraph construction young people may run the risk of never developing a literary voice.

We will be deprived of their wit poetry and rhythm and in its place all we'll get is the bland low-sugar applesauce of LLM generated content.

That's a loss.

I'm trying to figure out how different websites handle OpenGraph embeds (the little preview boxes), so that I can make the embeds look good everywhere. I'll write the results up and share them once I'm finished.

For other social media sites it's easy enough, I can just test with my own account, but here on the fediverse there are a bunch of different clients which might process things differently. So I'd like to know how this looks on as many different clients as possible. Please can you let me know what client you're using (or what server software, if you're viewing it via the web) and how this preview is displayed?

Patience.
For a lot of people, this is their first foray into non-compliance. They are going to start with small things within their comfort zone. This isn't a failure to do bigger things, this is training for it.

Self compassion.
If you are finding yourself angry at how little others are doing, you may be burned out. Rest is resistance too, as is pivoting to joy or humour in how you protest.

Novels got longer when the chain bookstores started being a thing in the 80s, because hardcovers of 300 or so pages look good on bookshelves. Also, these days 200 page books exist in the form of novellas, which have taken off in the last decade (see: the Murderbot series) after decades of publishing dormancy.
