reading comments on themes in “The Odyssey”:

“Hospitality and Divine Justice

Hospitality, or xenia, is treated almost as a sacred law overseen by Zeus, requiring hosts to welcome and care for strangers regardless of their identity. Those who honor this code, like the Phaeacians and the sorceress Circe, are rewarded and aid Odysseus’s journey, while violators are punished—Odysseus blinds the Cyclops Polyphemus for refusing hospitality, and the suitors are slaughtered for abusing Penelope’s household. This theme reflects the ancient Greek belief that how one treats guests reveals one’s fundamental morality.”

Dunno what became of it, but tracking the inputs along with “Value Add” is doable (with the right political will)

An added wrinkle to this debate and one reason why so many of us are super-sceptical about managers and executives who seem to mostly be saying the right thing is we all remember how reasonable the 37 Signals guys sounded before they decided that fascism was a better strategy

The Great Spirit smiled kindly at the little rabbit. “You are brave, Ahyu. Fire is a powerful gift, and it must be treated with respect. I will give you a piece of fire, but you must promise to share it with all the animals.”

“I promise!” Ahyu exclaimed, his eyes wide with excitement. The Great Spirit handed him a small glowing ember.

Ahyu carefully carried the ember back down the mountain. When he reached the forest, all the animals gathered around him, their eyes shining with hope. He placed the ember in a hollow log and gently blew on it. To everyone's amazement, the ember sparked and soon a beautiful flame flickered to life!

The animals cheered and danced around the fire, feeling the warmth spread through their hearts. They roasted sweet berries and shared stories under the stars, grateful for the gift of fire.

From that day on, fire became a symbol of togetherness and sharing in the Cherokee tradition. The animals learned to respect it, using it wisely and always remembering the brave little rabbit who brought warmth to their lives.

As the night grew deeper, Ahyu and all the animals settled around the fire, their hearts full of joy and laughter, knowing that together, they could overcome anything.

And so, every night after, the fire burned brightly in the forest, reminding everyone of the courage and kindness that brings warmth to the heart.

The end! I hope your little ones enjoy this story and have a wonderful night's sleep!

Story Request: I need a bedtime story from the Cherokee tradition for two siblings: a 5 yea old boy and a 7 year old girl.

The Story of the First Fire

Long, long ago, when the world was still young, the animals and people lived in harmony. The days were bright, and the nights were cool, but there was one thing missing: fire. The animals would gather together each night, telling stories and singing songs, but as the stars twinkled above, they often shivered in the chilly air.

One day, a wise old owl named Tsiya noticed that the animals were feeling cold. “We need fire to keep us warm and to cook our food,” he said. “But how can we get it?”

Tsiya called a meeting of all the animals in the forest. “We must find a way to bring fire to our world,” he hooted. The animals agreed, and they all decided to send their bravest friend to seek out the Great Spirit, who was said to have the secret of fire.

The brave little rabbit named Ahyu volunteered for the journey. “I may be small, but I will do my best!” he said, his heart beating with courage. The other animals cheered him on as he set off into the unknown.

Ahyu hopped through the forest, past tall trees and sparkling streams, until he reached a great mountain. At the top lived the Great Spirit, surrounded by a warm, glowing light. With determination, Ahyu climbed the mountain and finally reached the Great Spirit.

“Great Spirit,” he called, “we need fire to warm our homes and cook our meals. Please, can you help us?”

Then again one of the songs I wrote has a two chord verse section in minor key and still sounds interesting.

I suspect (a) a lot of the interest can come from arrangement/rhythm/etc and (b) probably a big reason why the happy stuff I write is generic is because I'm throwing "generic happy stuff" together rather than composing from a feeling I'm trying to express

Call for graphic artists, comics drawers and designers: At work we manage a small clothing brand where we can print and produce t-shirts, hoodies and accessories for a marginal price.

Our focus so far was to set up the shop in a robust way, find the best suppliers available and guarantee a top notch supply chain from print to delivery (to your door), while solely relying on Print On Demand to avoid having waste products nor storage costs.

So far we’ve managed to deliver on all these points + worked with great but very few (4/5) artists and designers to bring to life some comics characters, and curate the designs to a T. Our first collab artists were from places as far away as Australia or Latin America.

There is no specific theme, but for our previous releases we did get inspired by technology, cyberspace, or mythology and handmade techniques. We also work closely with electronic music artists and creative people from the music scene.

Now we can and will focus on design, and I’d love to collaborate with fedi artists, as there are plenty of talented people around here.

If you have some cool artowrks that you would like to see printed in high quality garments, get in touch…

A broken-down tour bus photographed in black and white.
An old sign over an old door on a rusty corrugated-iron wall. The sign says "sýningarbásar", or "show booths", and "Fornbílafélag Borgarfjarðar" or "the antique car association of Borgarfjörður". The building is now unused.
The other side of that large warehouse, showing the rusty corrugated iron. A mountain towers over it in the background.
A closer view of the door to where the exhibition booths for the antique car association used to be. You can see a bit of the photographer's reflection in the window.
