One of my favorite student proofs was written by a student who was just learning to speak English. He'd get frustrated with long explanations and just switch to equations or diagrams and write "it is like this:"
Then demonstrate his point.
He could have run the final draft through and LLM and it would add some pointless sentences to pad out the proof so it was less terse and more like every other proof ever written.
It would have been worse.

With spelling there isn't any creativity that I will never unlock, but with sentence and paragraph construction young people may run the risk of never developing a literary voice.
We will be deprived of their wit poetry and rhythm and in its place all we'll get is the bland low-sugar applesauce of LLM generated content.
That's a loss.
Especially if the voices are less standard.

I'm trying to figure out how different websites handle OpenGraph embeds (the little preview boxes), so that I can make the embeds look good everywhere. I'll write the results up and share them once I'm finished.
For other social media sites it's easy enough, I can just test with my own account, but here on the fediverse there are a bunch of different clients which might process things differently. So I'd like to know how this looks on as many different clients as possible. Please can you let me know what client you're using (or what server software, if you're viewing it via the web) and how this preview is displayed?

If you are finding yourself angry at how little others are doing, you may be burned out. Rest is resistance too, as is pivoting to joy or humour in how you protest.

Novels got longer when the chain bookstores started being a thing in the 80s, because hardcovers of 300 or so pages look good on bookshelves. @glyph Done. Homebrew has some decent templates to allow taps to build & host their own bottles as GitHub release artifacts.
To use:
```
brew tap nfnitloop/tap
brew trust nfnitloop/tap
brew install sned
```

So, not looking likely any time soon.
I'll look into making an external brew "tap", but that'll likely just be a wrapper around building from source with `cargo install`.

This, right here, is the fundamental disconnect in the discourse surrounding X.
You go back to X, you turn the cranks. You feed the machine. You help to make it all go.
You don't get to say that's not what you're doing. It's too late. You've already done it.

Culture war is the very point of the MAGA AI slop the platform traffics in and the viscerally cruel White House X account. Culture war is behind Tucker Carlson’s choice to debut his post-Fox show on X and why Alex Jones livestreams on the platform every day. West’s nihilistic neo-Nazi single is an act of culture war: Its message isn’t just that X has energized his ideas, but that the platform renders people like Ye unignorable. Only Musk could shut this machine down, but plenty of others lend it their credibility and happily turn the cranks, ensuring that the culture war grinds on and on."

This is always what happens with boycott movements.
“Why boycott this and not that?”
“Why are you boycotting since it’s not going to matter anyway”
“Why do you denounce people who don’t want to boycott”What can I tell you mate. Yes boycotts are hard. They’re hard to keep alive, they’re hard to spread, they’re hard to grasp in terms of their impact. But that doesn’t mean there isn’t an impact.
Boycotting companies that do business with(in) Israel during an ongoing genocide means it becomes less and less profitable for them to keep doing that. It means we, as a people, can at least try to make a dent in Israel’s economy instead of standing on the sidelines and crying our hearts out while reading the news. (It’s not too late, stop drinking Coca-Cola and giving Disney your money: https://bdsmovement.net/Guide-to-BDS-Boycott)
We each have our most pressing fights. And it’s normal that we aren’t all able to boycott everything. We have to prioritize depending on who we are and what we do, and that’s okay. That’s how boycotts work by necessity.
*However*, there are some boycotts that are honestly impossible to ignore. Especially when that boycott movement is both well-known across the world (or even just among your social spheres) and easy to take part in. In which case, yeah, I’ll reserve the right to be loud if you intentionally look the other way and pretend you don’t see it.
For me, the boycott of X is one of those movements that’s impossible to ignore. Especially if you are a tech person. You know that the boycott exists, you know why it exists, yet you’re deciding to look the other way. That’s a political decision that you need to take responsibility for.

or, why do we lean into kindness instead of the uncomfortable conversations that make for a better world?
anyway, yo ho ho
I tried explaining that the *most* pressing concern is that when I play a song FOR my child, on MY phone, plugged into MY car's stereo, while I am driving, that I'd enjoy the service considerably more if it did not follow up a children's comedy song with four explicit adult comedy songs that revolve around repeated profanity. the agent helpfully told me how to age-restrict the content on my preteen's device, because somehow they could not understand that THE CHILD IS NOT THE ONE DRIVING
apparently "I would like to tell my phone to play one song, and then, when it is done playing that song, I don't want it to play anything else" is such a confusing request that YouTube Music's customer service cannot even understand it. they cannot imagine a world in which I do not want my every sensory organ stuffed full of inescapable engagement-maximizing stimuli

Yes, I have loudly and furiously denounced Federico’s decision to return MacStories and his personal account to X.
I wasn’t denouncing a “tech choice”. I was denouncing a deeply hurtful political move. I did it as a trans women of color, as someone who represents an active organization fighting for the rights of its community, as someone who in so many ways is affected by Elon Musk gaining more users and power.
Some of my friends aren’t trans, aren’t women, yet reacted in a similar way because they have chosen to take action on this front to support those who are impacted.
This is political action. That it happens on a small scale in regard to one tech publication and its editor-in-chief doesn’t change that fact.
